A Nature Explorer Turned Artist

Bio

Me teaching photography (Ran Fuchs)

I use photography and art to raise awareness about the beauty and frailty of wildlife in our immediate vicinity.

I have held solo exhibitions in Australia, Germany, and Finland, and while my home base is Sydney, Australia, I spend most of my time travelling the world.

Artist Statement

If people could see nature through my eyes, they would love and want to protect it as much as I do. My art serves as a bridge between nature and the viewer. Through it—sometimes accompanied by writing or included in my presentations—I strive to bring nature to the viewers and deepen their connection to it.

I frequent places that anyone can access: the backyard, a roadside tree, or even a wasteland near a construction site. I immerse myself in these environments, waiting for any sign of life—a flying bird, a jumping insect, a lizard. By following their patterns, I learn to anticipate their movements. Only then am I ready to capture them with my camera. With each movement so fleeting, faster than the eye can see, every photo becomes a surprise.

Once I have captured a photo, I listen to what it wants to become. Sometimes it wants to remain a photograph; other times it asks for a complete transformation. Since the purpose of my images is to bring people closer to nature and evoke a sense of wonder, the tools and techniques I use are merely vessels to achieve this goal.
