Wow, what an unbelievable Vernissage it was last night.

It was all about nature photography inspired by Japanese traditional culture. But don’t mistake it for a Japanese event. The key word was inspired. The event was a blend, a fusion, and it worked beautifully and harmonically. 

​

The atmosphere was shaped by the renovated 1600s Rochlhaus in Thaining, which keeps the charm of the old while adding modern comfort. 

​

The opening of the exhibition started with a deeply moving concert by the German-Japanese trio Talistrio:

 

Last year, Japanese composer Masaya Ishiwaka composed a new trio piece for Talistrio. It is titled “For Japanese Seasons” and consists of four movements, each of which—like a haiku—evokes a specific season.​​

 

In a side room, we offered lessons in origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. 

​

This created the perfect backdrop for the Kachoga: Japanese-inspired photography exhibition. 

​

More than 80 people attended, so thank you to everyone who came. Conversations flowed across nature and conservation, the meaning of art and where photography fits within it, and how traditional Japanese-style art can help people experience the state of NO MIND (in Japanese, MUSHIN), which I also call the zero point, and how it can support us even in our hectic modern lives.

They carried on late into the night, until midnight.
